I was originally going to write on just the Cowboys and their hilarious performances this year, but that would have been just be too much. I mean, I did just waste 30 minutes of my life watching Trent Dilfer tell me about all of the ways that they are horrible. Not that it wasn't a good analysis, but come on, 30 minutes? And I'm tired of listening to Wade Phillips mumbling his way through press conferences and Jerry Jones "uh-ummming" every other word in postgame interviews. What a defeated franchise. Anyways, here are some other things we can look at halfway through the 2010 NFL season:
1. San Diego Chargers: Offense and Defense apparently aren't everything.
If you get Sports Illustrated, you know exactly what I'm talking about. Despite have the best offense and best defense in the NFL, the Chargers are 4-5 and at 3rd place in the AFC west because of an excess of special teams snafus.
2. Randy Moss
Patriots? No. Vikings? We thought it was a fresh start and a cute homecoming but no. Titans? Maybe a good fit. After losing breakout receiver Kenny Britt to a hamstring injury for 6-8 weeks, they needed a new deep threat. Moss provides that, given he's willing to give his full effort. And according to, well, everybody, Jeff Fisher should be able to get that out of him.
3. Teams that don't suck anymore
Raiders, Rams, Chiefs, Buccaneers - last year these teams had 13 wins combined. This year, they already have 19. The Raiders and Chiefs are battling it out for first place in the inverted AFC West and the Rams are tied for first in the underwhelming NCF West. The Buccaneers are only a game back in the NFC South as well. Even the Lions have two wins, which equals the amount they had last year.
4. Brett Favre
Nevermind, we've heard enough about him.
5. Wade Phillips and Brad Childress
Mmmm...nevermind here too. Just fire them so that we can hear about somebody else, please?
So Michael Vick turned out to be way better than anybody expected him to be. Even Kevin Kolb proved to be a great quarterback in a couple of his starts. It looks like Philadelphia will have a least a wild card spot in the playoffs, assuming there aren't any more injuries to key players. The test then will be to see if they can take it further.
Halfway through the season playoff races are still wide open, and it looks like we'll have another exciting November and December to look forward to.
