College Football Uniforms - The Winners and Losers

So here I am watching the ACC title game and I notice that Virginia Tech has broken out some all-white uniforms. That, of course, triggers a connection to Oregon's all-white uniforms.  So I thought, "you know? Some of these alternate uniforms are really cool...but then again, some of them are god-awful ugly."

So I have for you now, the winners and losers of the alternate uni gambling game.

Winners

1. Oregon
The Ducks have over 150 possible uniform combinations, and I would look for a specific number, but is seems like every game they unveil an new color on something.  You can even go here to a "create-your-own Oregon uniform" page.

Granted with this many combinations, some are remarkable, and some are uglier than moldy turkey sandwiches.  But the Ducks have more cool uniforms than not, so I'm giving them a win for their efforts.  Just stay away from the yellow tops. Please.

2. Army
Arguably the coolest uniforms EVER are the ones the boys from West Point wore against the Virginia Military Institute earlier this year.  As you can see by the picture, they are all camouflage. Army has a black top option for the camo look as well.

3. West Virginia
I'm only talking about the mining-inspired alternates here.  The Mountaineers have yellow shirts in their locker rooms as well, and as you will know very well by the end of this article, I think the yellow tops are just wrong. So focus on these cool uniforms:

Alright, that's enough of the good. What's really fun to write about is the bad. And believe me, there are some BAD choices here, people.

Losers
                                      3. Ohio State
For the past two years, the Buckeyes have used alternate uniforms for their game against Michigan.  And I think the reason I don't like the alternates is because the normal uniform looks good enough, and a different helmet color just makes every thing uncomfortable.
2. Yellow Tops - Iowa State, Cal, West Virginia, Oregon
For a picture, look at the Oregon uniforms at the top.  Now, this is a personal preference. Lost of people like the yellow uniforms, but I can't stand them. I don't want to see highlighted bananas running around with a football. I just don't.

1. Miami
Saturday, November 20, 2010 was a day to forget for the Hurricanes.  Not only did they lose 31-17 to Virginia Tech, but they wore possible the most hideous uniforms ever invented in any sport across the universe.  Just see for yourself:
I turned on this game and thought the orange team was Virginia Tech.  And because VT was wearing their all-whites, I thought the Hokies were the 'Canes.  I was horrified when I found that I was wrong.  Not only are they wearing a sheet of orange - the dark green helmets are not working AT ALL.  Yuck.  Just yuck.

So there you go.  The best and worst college football alternate uniforms.  There are plenty of pictures to feast your eyes on, just don't look at the Miami ones for too long or you might get food poisoning.
